CCIE SP or CCDE?

You may be thinking i'm moving too fast...You may be right...

After passing the CCIE lab, i found out (no that i didn't know it) that all these years i was keeping myself in a low profile and everyone (especially my employer) was taking advantage of it (something not censurable, since most employers do the same; that's part of their job). But when my salary is below CCNA's average, when i'm hearing many different excuses and all of them are confuted step by step, then there is surely something going wrong.

So i've decided to take the next step and go for another certification. At the same time i'm probably going to search for a new job (i had already made some contacts before), trying to peddle my CCIE. If i find one that fulfills my requirements (bigger salary and/or a higher position are the most important), i'll probably delay (or postpone) the next certification.

Now my dilemma...I'm thinking about CCIE Service Provider or CCDE.

CCIE Service Provider is already quite known to me, because i work for many years in an ISP and i know most of the stuff. I just need another 3-4 months (hopefully) of hard preparation and surely a good understanding of MPLS. Maybe i'll also try the CCIP before it, just like i did with CCNP.

CCDE is the new Design Expert certification from Cisco and it seems quite interesting. I've read the written exam blueprint and i must say i'm excited about it. On the other hand, although it's not a requirement for CCDE, i'd like first to pass CCDA and CCDP before trying CCDE. Just like i did for the CCIE. But the topics for these 2 exams seem a little bit boring...a little bit theoretical... Nevertheless, a 4-digit CCDE is quite tempting! (here is someone who passed the written).

Anyway, i 'm not in a hurry right now. Whatever i decide, it's going to begin after 1-2 months.

I have also created a poll, so i can gather others' opinions. Please take a moment and vote....

  1. Hey, just stumbled on your blog. Did you do the CCIE SP or not? I'm thinking of preparing for it. I'm in a similar situation as i worked in the SP environment.

  2. I'm heading towards the SP, but i'm also looking at the CCDE. But, as long as i have limited free time, nothing will happen.

  3. Hey, i'm a sales engineer that working for an ISP that doesn't get to do alot of configuration, more customer facing. I have my ccna and am aiming for CCIE SP in future.

Should I just go for CCIE RS first then SP? Or is CCIE SP still achievable by first doing CCIP? I would like some advice on this if possible! Thanks

  4. Too bad you're not in the US, I'd hire you and pay you a lot more money than you would imagine... CCIEs are hard to find.

  5. I passed the R&S earlier this year and I am looking at the SP now. I have a similar situation with my employer like you do. I will start looking for a new job by the end of the year.

I wish you all the best of luck! A CCIE certification is something special. It was the most exciting thing I ever did. That's why I want to do it again.

  6. Dear fellow Cisco CCIE’s

For a very long time our accreditation has been the highest certification level in Cisco Networking. Well, not any longer.
Cisco released a CCDE (Cisco Certified Design Expert) certification, not too long ago. The structure is similar to the CCIE – you have a written exam to pass and then you do a “lab” exam afterwards. It is hands-off though. It is all about Design, product choice, strategy and planning.

So far there is only a handful CCDE’s out there on the market and as you can guess already, those guys will be in highest demand in the years to come. Experts who do not implement and troubleshoot, but Experts who design multi million dollar networks for large corporations.
Does that sound interesting? It certainly does to me as a CCIE!

Now the good news is, that ProNetExpert is the only company in the world who can offer both a CCDE written training course AND a CCDE lab exam boot camp. We already have 2 fully CCDE certified instructors on board who are delivering our classes.
We currently run the first CCDE written Bootcamp in Guildford (just outside of London) and we have our next CCDE written and CCDE lab Bootcamp lined up for November in London already.

The classes are filling up quickly with CCDE candidates from all over the world and the CCDE lab Bootcamp in November is confirmed to run. In December there will be the next CCDE lab exam from Cisco, so the Bootcamp is ideally timed.

    Next Dates:

CCDE written in London (5 days) 16.November – 20. November
    £1,995 GBP + VAT

CCDE lab in London (10 days) 23 November – 04. Dexcember
    £4,495 GBP + VAT

If you are interested in becoming a CCDE, visit our CCDE website at http://www.ccdebootcamp.co.uk

Please feel free to pass this message on to any of your friends / colleagues who may also be interested.

  10. However, candidates are encouraged to register at least 45 days in advance for most locations to guarantee PPC sites will be open for the required nine hours to administer the CCDE practical exam.. ccde study guide
